Injuries, fires, violence… The crazy Parisian night after the PSG coronation

Paris is celebrating, but the celebration was also marked by excesses. This Saturday, May 30, PSG won its second consecutive Champions League by winning against Arsenal (1-1, 4-3 on penalties) in the final. A coronation celebrated throughout the capital by thousands of supporters.

The atmosphere grew louder throughout the evening. Nearly 20,000 people gathered on the Champs-Élysées, according to the Paris police headquarters. At the Canal Saint-Martin, in the 10th arrondissement, some supporters even celebrated the victory by diving into the Seine, as shown in videos relayed by The Parisian.

To supervise these festivities, 8,000 police officers were deployed in the capital. Despite this system, several incidents have been reported. Around the Parc des Princes, around 150 people tried to enter the stadium grounds. Several fire outbreaks were also recorded across Paris.

The Minister of the Interior drew up an initial provisional assessment: 416 arrests were made on the sidelines of the celebrations, including 283 within the jurisdiction of the Paris police headquarters. Seven police officers were injured in France, “including one quite seriously”specified Laurent Nuñez. At least two businesses also suffered damage in the capital.

Two people injured

According to a police source cited by The Dispatchtwo people were injured. The first was rescued after falling into the Seine, near Quai Saint-Bernard, in the 5th arrondissement. She was in cardiorespiratory arrest when she was treated. The second was allegedly the victim of a stabbing in the Place de la République area.

Despite these incidents, the authorities are maintaining the festivities planned for this Sunday. “There will be no questioning of the festivities which will be held tomorrow on the Champ-de-Mars,” assured the Minister of the Interior. Nearly 100,000 people are expected in the capital for the PSG parade, which kicks off at 3 p.m.
