OGC Nice supporters are the subject of a prefectural decree on the sidelines of the return play-off against AS Saint-Étienne prohibiting them… from supporting their own team.

On the eve of the Ligue 1/Ligue 2 return play-off against AS Saint-Étienne, scheduled for this Friday, May 29 at 8:45 p.m. (0-0 in the first leg), OGC Nice will literally be deprived of supporters for a crucial match which will decide the future of the club.

Already forced not to be able to go to the Allianz Riviera after the incidents that occurred against Metz on May 17 – the closed session having been confirmed by the Higher Appeals Commission of the French Football Federation this Wednesday – Nice supporters are now the subject of a surprising prefectural decree.

Indeed, the prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes Laurent Hottiaux “prohibited to any person claiming to be a supporter of OGC Nice, or behaving as such” to access the stadium, “neither around it nor at the training center” between Friday (12 p.m.) and Saturday (2 a.m.).

A “serious risk of disturbing public order” invoked

In other words, the administration prohibits anyone from wearing a red and black jersey, starting a song or even simply being enthusiastic about their team on public roads.

This drastic measure aims to maintain calm in the city and its surroundings given the “real and serious risk of disturbing public order” which weighs on the meeting, classified level 4 by the National Division for the Fight against Hooliganism.
