Big disillusionment in Lyon

In the race for the podium on the last day of Ligue 1, OL completely collapsed against RC Lens in front of their supporters (0-4). 4th place forces Les Gones to go through Champions League qualifying.

Losc can breathe. Defeated by AJ Auxerre (0-2), who snatched their hold, Bruno Genesio’s Mastiffs still qualified for the Champions League by finishing in 3rd place in Ligue 1 behind PSG and RC Lens. At the same time during this last day, Sunday, OL, 4th at kick-off, took a beating in their den when the Lensois came, 4-0 winners!

The Sang et Or no longer played anything and had several absentees but played on Rhone soil. Wesley Saïd scored a double (20th and 32nd) by beating Dominik Greif with a curled shot then in an off-center position. Florian Sotoca, found by Florian Thauvin, increased the score just before half-time (45th+1). The few attempts by Endrick and Alfonso Moreira were not enough and “Flotov” scored the 4th goal with a magnificent lob (53rd)!

OM finishes ahead of Rennes

After a super final sprint, the Lyonnais are therefore satisfied with 4th place which requires them to survive the 3rd qualifying round and the Champions League play-offs in order to compete in the league phase. Not simple at all. OM can blame themselves since Mason Greenwood and his teammates, winners of Stade Rennais at the Vélodrome (3-1), finished one point behind OL, beating the Bretons for a 5th place synonymous with the Europa League.

AS Monaco finished in seventh position and will only qualify for the Conference League if RC Lens wins against OGC Nice in the Coupe de France final next week. The Monegasques led 4-1 in the 55th minute in Strasbourg before an incredible comeback from the Alsatian team for a 5-4 victory!
