This afternoon against Chelsea, Pep Guardiola will have the opportunity to win his 17th major trophy at the head of Manchester City. His team will play a fourth consecutive FA Cup final, and the Spanish coach will visit Wembley for the 24th time as coach of the Skyblues. At a press conference yesterday, Guardiola put on a show as he often does, declaring with humor that the FA should perhaps consider naming a VIP box in his name given the frequency of his trips to London.

Asked about the possibility that his work would be more praised after his departure from Manchester, Guardiola replied: “ they don’t need to wait for me to leave, they know I’ve been entertaining. I had a lot of fun. Of course, 19 titles in 10 years is not bad.” For several months, Guardiola’s future has occupied a central place in the debates in England, while his contract runs until 2027. If no official communication has been made at the moment, neither by the club, nor by the coach, many imagine Guardiola leaving one year from the end of his contract.

Guardiola will complete his contract

Yesterday, journalists also tried to make him say more than he should, presenting the final against Chelsea as his probable last visit to Wembley with the Manchester City coaching hat. But quite unexpectedly, the 55-year-old technician dismissed this idea out of hand.

If this will be my last visit to Wembley with Manchester City? “Impossible, impossible, I have one year of contract left”he said with a broad smile, before leaving the press conference room laughing. As a reminder, two important members of Guardiola’s staff will leave the club this summer, namely physical trainer Lorenzo Buenaventura and goalkeeping coach Xabi Mancisidor. Manchester City, for their part, would have sounded out Guardiola’s deputy, Pep Lijnders, so that he could continue the adventure.
