Arriving last summer at Paris Saint-Germain, Lucas Chevalier is going through a delicate period marked by competition, injuries and a weakened hierarchy.

Lucas Chevalier’s adventure at Paris Saint-Germain could already take an unexpected turn. Recruited last summer for 55 million euros from LOSC, the 24-year-old goalkeeper is struggling to establish himself in the capital, between irregular performances and current injury. A French international on one occasion, the goalkeeper is having a complicated season, far from the expectations placed on him.

Initially installed as number one after the departure of Gianluigi Donnarumma to Manchester City, Chevalier did not convince over the long term. His performances opened the door to Matvey Safonov, now better positioned in the hierarchy. Relegated to the bench, he sees his situation weakening, especially as his status in the French team remains uncertain as the World Cup approaches.

A decision this summer

During the 33rd day of Ligue 1 against Stade Brestois, it was Renato Marin, usually third in the rotation, who was started by Luis Enrique as part of the turnover. An opportunity that he was able to exploit, further strengthening the competition in the Parisian goals.

According to L’Équipe, Chevalier’s future could also be written far from Paris. In an article published this Monday, the daily raises the possibility of a departure this summer if the hierarchy does not budge. A loan is not excluded, as is a broader reflection by Parisian leaders on its future. Nothing has been decided yet, but the current dynamic clearly places the French goalkeeper in an increasingly fragile situation.
