Finalist in the Champions League against PSG, Arsenal is the subject of an appeal in England likely to spoil its end of the season.

Arsenal has a meeting with PSG in the Champions League final on May 30 in Budapest. In the meantime, the Gunners will perhaps be crowned at the level of the Premier League, with two last meetings to honor against Burnley and Crystal Palace in the championship. This while Manchester City, currently relegated five lengths, still has to face Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Aston Villa.

Well on their way to winning their very first national crown since 2004, the Londoners of the cannon club therefore find themselves in a very favorable tie at the expense of Cityzens who in the meantime will also have an English Cup final to play, against Chelsea on May 16. Except for one detail…

Arsenal could indeed lose their joker if their victory obtained on Sunday against West Ham were to be invalidated. Then 0-1 winners on the Hammers pitch thanks to Leandro Trossard, the Gunners conceded a goal in added time, by Callum Wilson (90e+5). An achievement ultimately invalidated for a foul on the visitors’ goalkeeper, David Raya.

The direction of arbitration in England seized

Across the Channel, the controversy has not failed to swell. Some saw this as favoritism when Mr. Kavanagh, the referee of the match, took more than four minutes and reviewed the sequence 17 times before canceling West Ham’s goal after consulting the VAR. The Hammers have therefore decided to contact the PGMOL, the arbitration management in England.

For the club from the east of the capital, the pill is all the harder to swallow as this decision has a direct impact in the fight for maintenance. Two lifts from the verdict, West Ham, 18e of the Premier League and the last virtual condemned to relegation, is one step behind Tottenham, who is also one game behind.
