At the end of his contract at Losc, after a contrasting season with the Mastiffs, Olivier Giroud, 39, is getting a little closer to the exit every day.

Asked by M6, Olivier Giroud will ultimately not comment on matches for the 2026 World Cup in North America. The 2018 world champion was ready to put on the costume of TV consultant for the first time, at the age of 39, but only for matches in the first round of the World Cup. On RMC in March, he explained that he wanted to continue with pre-season preparation at the club. Retirement will obviously wait for him.

In July, Giroud will probably no longer be a Losc player. After his failed experience in MLS, at Los Angeles FC with Hugo Lloris, the former AC Milan striker only signed for one season with the Mastiffs, with the possibility of extending in the event of an agreement between the two parties.

The season was particularly difficult for the Isère native (he grew up near Grenoble and was trained at GF38). If his stats are correct with 7 goals scored in Ligue 1 and 4 in the Europa League, he has had a string of laborious performances for many months due to the succession of matches, Hamza Igamane having been seriously injured during the African Cup of Nations. Matias Fernandez-Pardo, a winger, finished the season at the forefront and contributed to the very good dynamic of his team.

A Belgian scorer in place of Giroud

Victim of a knee injury, Igamane continues his rehabilitation and could participate in Lille’s next pre-season preparation. In addition to his search for a successor to Bruno Genesio, announced at the departure, the president of Losc Olivier Létang has visibly initiated the recruitment of a center forward. Enough to compensate for the departure of Giroud.

Lille is one of the clubs interested in a 21-year-old Senegalese striker, Pape Moussa Fall, on loan from FC Metz to La Louvière and author of 12 goals in the Belgian championship. Fall should not stay with the Grenats in Ligue 2 because, in addition to Losc and FC Lorient, he will be followed by several Premier League and Bundesliga clubs, including West Ham, Crystal Palace and Stuttgart.
