FC Barcelona is actively preparing its defensive revolution. After a 2025/2026 campaign marked by too much fragility at the back, the Catalan club no longer wants to be confronted with this type of problem in the future. This season, defensive shortcomings have cost the Blaugranas dearly, being the main factor in their early elimination in the Champions League with the expulsions of Pau Cubarsí in the first leg and then of Eric García in the return which cost them dearly against Atlético Madrid.

To avoid experiencing such a scenario again, Deco and the sports management have set their sights on Alessandro Bastoni, whose left-handed central defender profile is considered essential to stabilize Hansi Flick’s building. Boss of Inter Milan’s defense for years, the 27-year-old left-hander is considered one of the best defenders in the world. With a 12-point lead five days from the end in Serie A, the Italian defender, who will not play in the World Cup this summer, will win a new Scudetto and would already have his head elsewhere. Indeed, despite its financial difficulties, FC Barcelona would have taken the lead in this burning issue.

Bastoni ready to force his departure from Barça

According to information from Mundo Deportivothe bases of an agreement are already well advanced between Barça and the player’s entourage. The project would involve a five-season contract, linking the Inter Milan defender to the Catalan club until 2031. Although the Italian press gives the deal as a done deal, everything remains pending the final green light from Hansi Flick. The German coach, currently focused on the end of the championship, should validate the operation once the Liga title is mathematically assured, thus allowing Deco to finalize the contractual details.

For his part, Bastoni seems to only have eyes for FC Barcelona. Ready to do anything to facilitate his arrival, the player has already made it known that he will adapt his salary requirements to fit within the strict constraints of La Liga’s financial fair play. The Italian even plans to meet personally with Inter leaders to request an exit voucher to Catalonia, his only desired destination. Its objective is clear: to push the Nerazzurro club to revise downwards its initial claims, set between 70 and 80 million euros. As a reminder, Bastoni is under contract until 2028 with the Interists. To be continued…
