After France’s victory (1-3) against Colombia in the Blues’ second friendly match during their tour of the United States, Brice Samba wanted to greet and support his young teammate Lucas Chevalier, who remained on the bench. Preferred by Didier Deschamps for this match, the Rennes goalkeeper became number 2 behind Mike Maignan, while Chevalier, lacking playing time at PSG, did not have the opportunity to show his qualities. “It’s been, I think, two years since I played with the France team, I’m very happy with this evening’s match (yesterday), to have won. We continue to work. It’s very positive about this gathering. It concerned everyone, except for Lucas who did not play”explained Samba in the corridors of Northwest Stadium.
The 31-year-old goalkeeper also put Chevalier’s delicate situation into perspective. “There are periods that are a little more prosperous, others that are a little less so. Lucas, we support him, we are behind him in this situation. We all know his qualities. Currently, I am number 2, I will be at Mike’s service to make him the best possible. Afterwards, if I am called upon, I will try to respond as I knew how to respond this evening”he added. For his fourth selection, Samba was decisive on several occasions, notably on a shot from James Rodríguez in the first period.
