Asked by TNT SportHarry Kane (33) took stock of this exciting new season that awaits him. “I never like to set limits for myself before each season. Sometimes I set a crazy goal for myself and see what I’m capable of. This season, obviously, I think I have scored almost 20 more goals than in my entire career, and yet I have had exceptional seasons as a striker. I think at this point you just have to savor these moments. Right now I feel so good and I’m wondering how to make it last forever. As we know, that won’t happen, but when I see players like Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric playing into their late 30s, 40s, it gives me the motivation to be able to do the same. Here again, the state of mind plays an important role: what you have accomplished, what you are aiming for. Are there any other trophies you want to win? Any other goals you want to achieve? But for now, I want to stay at the best level possible for as long as possible, and obviously, being at Bayern, I know I’m going to fight for titles every year, fight for the Champions League. I still have titles to win at club, I want to win at national level. It’s just about enjoying this present moment for as long as possible.”
The English striker was also questioned about the famous race for the Ballon d’Or, he who is rather well positioned after his good year. “It’s great, but there’s still a long way to go. I’m extremely proud of my season, that’s for sure. This fills me with pride because I know that not so long ago I too was a fan who dreamed of becoming a professional footballer. I’m here now, and I’m winning awards like the Golden Boot. And it’s a bit the same for the Ballon d’Or. Of course, now it no longer depends on the voters and the people who decide. My season was by far my best, and we’ll have to wait and see. It’s a strange situation, because I’m already focused on this season and next, and thinking about how to improve. But I also want to appreciate what I have accomplished. Time will tell (…) I think the problem with football and opinions is that there are so many opinions, so many arguments for different players, and people love that player for that reason. “He’s fast, he’s got exceptional football IQ, he’s got incredible finishing.” I think that’s what makes football so special: all these debates, and the Ballon d’Or is definitely one of them. So I’m happy to be in the running, we just have to wait and see.” Tomorrow, we will know a little more with the list of 30 nominees. Kane will a priori be part of it.
