According to information from Sky SportsPep Guardiola received a two-match suspension from the bench after his yellow card received during the victory at Newcastle in the FA Cup (3-1). Referee Sam Barrott thus sanctioned the Catalan technician for his protests after contact between Kieran Trippier and Jérémy Doku. This is the sixth warning Guardiola has received this season, a threshold which automatically results in a two-match suspension for coaches under FA disciplinary regulations. This sanction will therefore prevent Guardiola from being present on the touchline against West Ham in the Premier League, as well as during the FA Cup quarter-final scheduled for early April.

On the other hand, the former FC Barcelona coach will be able to lead his team during the League Cup final, scheduled for March 22 against Arsenal. The regulations provide that the finals of national competitions are not affected by automatic suspensions linked to the accumulation of yellow cards for members of the technical staff. At a press conference, Pep Guardiola chose irony and humor as a response, claiming to now hold “the record for the manager with the most yellow cards” from England. Note that since the 2019/2020 season, he has received nearly 14 warnings, as many as Marco Silva.
