The more the weeks pass, the more Spurs are in trouble. Struggling to return to the European scene, Tottenham Hotspur is going through a more than difficult period and is getting closer to a descent into the Championship. After three defeats in Igor Tudor’s first three matches in charge of the team, the Croatian manager was unable to change the dynamic, with a 16th place before the 30th day. While he played his first match on February 22 during the heavily lost derby against Arsenal (1-4), Tudor accentuated management’s concerns in just a few weeks.

While talks for a summer appointment are already underway, the immediate focus remains Premier League survival. Tottenham have lost five consecutive games and remain winless in their last 11 league games. However, Tudor is expected to stay on for the next Champions League match, against Atlético Madrid, before facing Liverpool and Nottingham Forest. According to the TelegraphIgor Tudor could well be sacked after this period, so that the London club can restructure during the international break.

Roberto De Zerbi is highly appreciated

Among the options mentioned to replace Tudor, Roberto De Zerbi, who is coming out of a tragic adventure with Olympique de Marseille, appears to be a serious long-term candidate, specifies the British newspaper. If he arouses the interest of Manchester United, Tottenham also appreciates his attacking style and his desire to dominate the game as he did well at Brighton. Other former Spurs players and coaches, such as Mauricio Pochettino or Robbie Keane, have also been mentioned, but Pochettino’s availability and Keane’s little experience pose constraints in the maintenance objective.

Roberto De Zerbi then emerges as the favorite, since the Italian’s popularity remains high among Tottenham executives. Especially since, on the MU side, the performances of Michael Carrick could push the Mancunian management to keep it. For now, Tottenham’s priority remains to finish the season on a positive note. The club said it would not comment on speculation around future managers and is focused on immediate performances in the league and Champions League. The final decision regarding Tudor and his possible replacement will be made by the management and sporting director Johan Lange before the international break.
