The electoral campaign is in full swing in Barcelona. On March 15, FC Barcelona members will vote for their new president. Elections for which Joan Laporta, the current boss of the club, is given as favorite, with Victor Font as a serious outsider. Marc Ciria and Xavier Vilajoana are the other two candidates also in the race, but they seem to have no chance of winning. Whatever the case, each candidate multiplies the media outings to convince the fanbase to give him his vote.

The most publicized electoral promises revolve around two main axes. First, the arrival of a great player for the offensive sector. Xavier Vilajoana thus revealed the name of Harry Kane as a sort of electoral promise, while Victor Font explained that it was not impossible to seek out the Englishman or Erling Haaland. Marc Ciria also mentioned the Norwegian’s name in his media appearances. Then, in addition to these promises of galactic recruitment, we mainly talk about Lionel Messi.

Messi doesn’t want to be used

Indeed, the Argentinian’s return to Barcelona – not as a player but in an administrative or honorary role – is a major issue in these elections. Each candidate wishes to bring together La Pulga of the club, while relations between the best player in Barcelona history and Joan Laporta are rather bad. Marc Ciria even displayed a sign with the Argentinian in the center of Barcelona with the inscription “want to see you again”while Joan Laporta takes the first steps towards reconciliation.

A situation which clearly annoys Messi, as the newspaper indicates Marca. The Argentine player does not appreciate his image being used by candidates, especially since he has decided not to take a position in these elections. Several candidates approached him to convince him to join their project, but he rejected them all, and he therefore does not appreciate that they continue to use his name publicly. His entourage confirmed to the newspaper that Messi does not intend to get involved in these elections and that he will not speak. The famous sign cited above was, for example, put up without the principal concerned being aware. Barça members are therefore warned: Messi has not chosen any side.
