After the departure of Roberto De Zerbi, Olympique de Marseille formalized the appointment of Habib Beye as new coach.

Olympique de Marseille finally has a new coach. After the departure of Roberto De Zerbi, OM formalized this Wednesday evening the appointment of Habib Beye. The former Senegalese international, recently dismissed by Stade Rennais FC, has signed up until June 2027 with a club that he knows well having played there from 2003 to 2007, specifies RMC.

Habib Beye will lead his first training session on Thursday and will be officially presented to the media at 2:45 p.m. The pace will be intense, since the technician is expected on the Marseille bench on Friday for the trip to Stade Brestois 29, opening of the 23rd day of Ligue 1. The club is counting on him to turn things around after a difficult start to the year.

A major sporting challenge

On a sporting level, OM remains in the wake of the podium. The Marseillais were held to the wire by RC Strasbourg Alsace (2-2) last weekend, after a heavy defeat against Paris Saint-Germain (5-0). Benjamin Pavard’s teammates are currently in 4th place in the standings, five points from the podium and OL.

The challenge for Beye will be to stabilize a squad lacking consistency and get the best out of its leaders. His knowledge of the club, his experience as a former player and his stated desire to turn things around make him an ambitious choice for OM, who hope to regain the momentum that would allow them to aim for Europe at the end of the season.
