Change in sight in the Moroccan selection? After the final of the 2025 African Cup of Nations lost by the Atlas Lions against Senegal (1-0 ap), Walid Regragui would have resigned, according to several sources. Information quickly denied by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).

Despite this denial, the Moroccan body would not rule out any scenario. So much so that she would have started looking for a potential successor to the former Grenoble defender. And a name would already be one step ahead. This is Tarik Sektioui.

Current coach of the Moroccan Olympic team, Sektioui has scored points with the FRMF, with whom he is already under contract. It must be said that he led his team to the bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and won the CHAN and the Arab Cup.

The locker room behind Regragui

Problem: part of the locker room would not like Tarik Sektioui to come, according to information from Radio 2M. It must also be said that a majority of players would like to continue the adventure with Walid Regragui, who notably took them to the semi-final of the last World Cup in Qatar.

As a reminder, Walid Regragui is linked to the Moroccan Federation until the end of the 2026 World Cup. Placed in group C, the Atlas Lions will face Brazil, Scotland and Haiti.
