There are nicknames that are unmistakable. In Abidjan, in the popular district of Yopougon, it is called “Zabi la Magie”. Today, it is on the lawns of France that the magic happens. The Stade de Reims midfielder is undoubtedly one of the revelations of this 2025-2026 season in Ligue 2. The rise has been meteoric. Just a year ago, this pure product of Ivoire Football Club Academie was still dribbling in the Ivorian fourth division. Recruited by Reims in January 2025 to strengthen the reserve (N3), it only took two matches for the professional staff to snap him up for good. Today it is a sure value of the Champagne club and the antechamber of the elite.

What first strikes you about Patrick Zabi is his extraordinary physique: 1m91 under the gauge. A veritable control tower capable of dominating any aerial duel and protecting his ball with impressive natural strength. But reducing the Ivorian to his size would be a big mistake. Balloon on foot, the elephant transforms into an artist. Heir to small-scale street football, he has retained this creative madness: body feints, furious sliding tackles, trivelas and combinations in small spaces. “He shifts, connects and creates angles like a street footballer on the big stage», notes an amazed recruiter. An explosive mixture of power and finesse which inevitably recalls the profiles of Paul Pogba or his illustrious compatriot Yaya Touré.

Paris FC sees him as the future face of the club

This season, Zabi confirms all his potential. With 18 appearances (2 goals, 3 assists in all competitions), he carries the Reims midfield. His 25-metre goal against Annecy at the start of January made a lasting impression. And inevitably, this leaves no one indifferent so much so that scouts and recruiters from France but also from all over Europe are often out and don’t miss anything of the performances of the Ivorian nugget. According to our information, Paris FC is pushing hard. Identified by the Red Bull galaxy as a “future global crack”, the capital club is ready to bet big. If some doubted the €15 million (bonus included) that the PFC wanted to invest a few months ago, the player’s recent performances have validated the “hype”. Paris sees in him the element of the future capable of embodying the new face of the club.

But the PFC is not alone. The competition is fierce. An Italian club whose name has not filtered, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Fulham, without forgetting Mönchengladbach have all fallen under the spell of Zabi. Faced with this ambient “madness”, Stade de Reims (currently 2nd in Ligue 2) knows that it will be impossible to keep its jewel under contract until June 2029. The Champagne management has set the bar very high and is preparing to manage the auctions. As for the native of Yopougon, ambitious and eager to leave the antechamber of the elite to continue his meteoric progress, he will favor the best sporting project. The battle for “Zabi the Magic” has only just begun.
