This Saturday, Roberto De Zerbi made the choice to leave Mason Greenwood on the bench at kick-off against RC Lens (3-1), in Ligue 1. A bet fully accepted by the Italian technician, and above all a winning one, since the Phocaeans finally took over the Artesian team at home.
Coming into play before the hour mark, the English striker however saw his starting place entrusted to new recruit, Ethan Nwaneri. A decision on which De Zerbi returned after the meeting, specifying that the former Manchester United player had had his say.
Greenwood’s confession
“In my team, there is no hierarchy: the only one who decides is me. We play every three days, so we have to rotate. Greenwood needed to breathe, we discussed it together and he admitted it to me. (…) We will need all our energy for this historic match against Bruges, a very physical team”explained De Zerbi to the press.
OM will also have to be able to count on Greenwood during the next Champions League meeting against FC Bruges on Wednesday. A final league phase match that is crucial for the future of the Olympian club, currently 19th in the standings, a position synonymous with the play-offs in the premier competition of European football.
