Liam Rosenior has a good chance of being the new coach of Chelsea, taking over from Enzo Maresca whose departure was announced on the first day of the year 2026. The one who is still, officially at least, coach of Strasbourg, headed to London overnight. On the program this Monday, an interview with the management of the Blues, even if some local media explain that it is a simple formality and that the position has already been promised to him, despite old controversial comments which have resurfaced recently.

At the age of 41 and with still rather meager experience at the highest level, Rosenior will therefore take charge of a Chelsea team which is obtaining mixed results, with this fifth place in the Premier League standings. But above all, the English press evokes a rather difficult context for coaches, with management which does not hesitate to stick its nose into the team’s affairs, imposing certain obligations on the coaches sitting on the bench at Stamford Bridge.

Not the ideal profile for Chelsea

Whatever the case, the future appointment of Liam Rosenior is clearly not unanimous among our English friends. In recent hours, several consultants have spoken out against him. If Wayne Rooney made fairly optimistic comments, his former teammate Gary Neville was much more skeptical. “Chelsea need experience in and around the club. If you have young players on the pitch, I also think you need an experienced coach. But it looks like they are going to appoint a young coach again. I just think young players need a bit of authority and a guide around them.”for example launched the former Manchester United.

“If you look at the coaching timeline: they recently had Thomas Tuchel, a Champions League winning coach. It now appears they will inherit Liam Rosenior, who coached Derby, Hull and Strasbourg. This is a great opportunity for him, but Chelsea Football Club and its supporters are not used to these appointments. They are used to seeing Mourinho, Hiddink, Conte, renowned coaches who come and have a huge impact on their club. I don’t see Rosenior doing that.”for his part indicated Jamie Carragher. “The problem, and it hurts me as a Chelsea fan, is that it’s not a good position. Marco Silva doesn’t want it, neither does Andoni Iraola, nor does Oliver Glasner. This is not a good position. Coaches don’t really lead.”for his part explained Paul Merson, confirming that the Chelsea context is quite difficult for the coaches. Good luck to Rosenior!
