Since the start of the school year, Canal+ subscribers no longer have access to La Liga in France. The beIN Sports channel, which is distributed by the private audiovisual group, has effectively lost the rights to the Spanish championship to the benefit of DAZN and Disney+. An end to collaboration which does not prevent Canal+ and La Liga from continuing to maintain good relations.
On Friday, the two entities announced the signing of an unprecedented strategic agreement to combat audiovisual sports piracy in nearly 50 countries, in Europe, sub-Saharan Africa and Haiti. Concretely, the French group and the Spanish football league “will pool their expertise, their technologies as well as their action and analysis capabilities in terms of anti-piracy”we can read in a press release.

“Each illicit retransmission of a football match deprives the entire amateur and professional sporting ecosystem of resources essential to its development: whether it is the financing of training centers for the talents of tomorrow, the support of clubs of all sizes, or the investment in audiovisual production to bring the most beautiful sporting competitions to life on screen”continues Canal+.
Maxime Saada, the president of the group, says
“particularly happy” of this agreement signed with his La Liga counterpart, Javier Tebas. “All players in the sports industry, without exception, and generally all players in audiovisual creation, have a role to play in the fight against the scourge of audiovisual piracy. Canal+ fully takes its responsibility and this partnership invites all stakeholders to do the same,” he explains.
