OL accused of buying a match

Fourteen years before OL’s 6-0 against Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday evening, Les Gones’ 7-1 victory against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League in 2011, thanks to a quadruple from BafĂ© Gomis, had been singled out in Spain and the Netherlands.

OL struck hard by winning 6-0 against Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday evening in the Europa League, thanks in particular to Corentin Tolisso’s hat-trick. No French club – not even PSG – had won by six away goals in the European Cup since the 7-1 victory of these same Gones on December 7, 2011 on the field of Dinamo Zagreb, in the Champions League, on behalf of the last day of the group stage.

Tolisso had seen his friends Maxime Gonalons, Clément Grenier and Alexandre Lacazette snatch an unexpected qualification in the round of 16 of the C1. The Lyonnais led by Rémi Garde were in fact three points behind Ajax with a worse goal difference (7 goals difference). However, the Amsterdam team was sinking at home against Real (0-3, double from José Callejon) when OL suddenly piled up the goals during the second half in Croatia!

In this memorable match for Rhone supporters, Dinamo opened the scoring in the 40th minute. Mateo Kovacic leaves Hugo Lloris (captain at 24) no chance. Bafé Gomis equalized four minutes later on a cross from Aly Cissokho and it was the start of the Gones offensive festival. Maxime Gonalons (47th) and Bafé Gomis twice (48th and 51st) score in the first five minutes of the second act!

The Madrid press accuses OL and Dinamo Zagreb

Lisandro Lopez brings the score to 5-1, well launched by “Laca” (64th), then BafĂ© Gomis offers himself a historic quadruple on a new serve from Cissokho (70th). A historic performance since the former French international was then the 7th player to score a quadruple in the Champions League. Yoann Gourcuff was not decisive in this slew of goals. It was Jimmy Briand who scored OL’s seventh goal even before the last quarter of an hour.

The resounding victory of Jean-Michel Aulas’ club gives rise to scandalous accusations from Spain. Ajax leaves Madrid being eliminated and Marca
evokes a “a beating that is suspicious to say the least”. Acethe capital’s other sports daily, fuels suspicions of match-fixing in Zagreb. The strange wink from defender Domagoj Vida to BafĂ© Gomis, at 5-1, is presented as proof of a possible arrangement. Ajax is demanding clarification from UEFA, but there will be no investigation due to a lack of solid evidence.
