Endrick in Lyon, a valid former OL star

Former Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz believes a move to Lyon would be the best solution for Endrick if the Brazilian leaves the club in January.

According to him, playing regularly is more important than polishing the bench at the Bernabeu. Mariano, who made the same choice in 2017 after struggling to get playing time, says there is “life after” Madrid.

Endrick’s season at Real Madrid has stalled.

The Whites have signed Endrick from Palmeiras in 2022 for a fee of up to €60 million. His first year under Carlo Ancelotti was promising, scoring seven goals in 37 appearances, but injuries hampered his progress early in the season. A hamstring injury kept him out of the Club World Cup and the start of the new season. Upon his return, new coach Xabi Alonso had already opted for other attacking options, leaving Endrick with only a brief appearance against Valencia earlier this month, where he played just 11 minutes. This lack of regular playing time raises concerns about his development, particularly in the run-up to next year’s World Cup.

Mariano advises Endrick to consider moving abroad

In an interview with The Athletic, Mariano draws parallels between their respective situations and affirms that leaving Madrid does not mean giving up his future at the club.

“If Endrick ends up leaving, or if a player who is lacking playing time has to go play abroad, I would tell him to take full advantage of it, to enjoy being a starter; It’s the best thing that could happen to him,” Diaz said.

He stressed that regular starts offer players a real opportunity to prove their talent.

“You have to prove yourself when you are trusted, because it’s not the same when you only play a few minutes every three games. You can’t prove your worth in a few minutes. But if we trust you and you are a starter, that’s where we can demonstrate a lot of things. In this specific case, if he (Endrick) leaves, he could also return to Madrid,” added the 32-year-old.
