Former left winger, notably with Strasbourg and Metz, Gérard Hausser died this weekend at the age of 84. He notably won the League Cup in 1964 and the Coupe de France two years later, before playing in the 1966 World Cup in England with the French team.

Gérard Hausser wore the rooster jersey fourteen times (2 goals). He even shook the nets for his first selection, against Austria, in March 1965. His other achievement with the Blues, he scored at Wembley, in July 1966, during the first match of the group stage of the World Cup in England, against Mexico (1-1).

He especially marked the history of Strasbourg, where he was born. During his two stints with the RCSA (1959-1967 and 1971-1974), the former winger played 286 matches, scoring 77 goals. The Alsatian is also in eighth place among the players who have played the most matches with the Strasbourg club.

Raise, one last prestigious match

Gérard Hausser also went through Karlsruhe, an experience that he described as a “fiasco”, then to Metz. Under the garnet tunic, he played 113 matches and scored 30 goals between 1968 and 1971, before returning home to Strasbourg.

He hung up his boots on May 30, 1974 after 329 matches played and 87 goals scored in the French championship. His last match was a friendly against the Brazil of Mario Zagallo and Rivelino, freshly world champion.
