And of course, we were again asked this question that no one can currently answer. Will OM players finally succeed in seriously competing with PSG for the title of French champion? Let’s put aside this formula to fuel talk shows. There is no debate, on the other hand, to guarantee an incontestable fact.
The Marseille club clearly surpasses the Parisian enemy in one area, at least: home attendance. At the end of the 12th day of Ligue 1, and the victorious reception of Stade Brestois last weekend (3-0), the Vélodrome stadium had recorded 390,109 spectators since the start of the season, according to figures from the Professional Football League (LFP). That is, a little more than 65,000 on average.
No club in the French Championship has attracted as many people as OM over the same period. PSG, leader of the standings with two points ahead of the Marseille team and the Racing club of Lens, has 238,218 spectators at the Parc des Princes, behind the Lille stadium (259,658) and that of OL (305,114).
King of sold-outs
If OM outperforms PSG, or not by far, in this area, it naturally owes it to a much greater capacity: 67,394 for the Vélodrome compared to 48,583 at the Parc des Princes. But the Provençal club can be proud of the loyalty of its public.
OM have in fact been playing for more than a year, August 2024, to a sold-out crowd, i.e. 22 matches. And there too, no one in France can compete with him in this area.
