OM’s misfortunes in the Champions League are reflected on the disciplinary level. The bitter defeat suffered on November 5 by the Marseillais at home against the Italians of Atalanta Bergamo (0-1, 4th day), resulted in UEFA sanctions.

The European body has ordered the partial closure of the Vélodrome stadium (sectors M, N, O, P, Q, L, J, I, G, E, C, B and R of the South stand), during the next European Cup match played at home by OM, for the use of fireworks. The decision is imposed on a probationary basis for a period of two years.

The Olympian club is also fined 12,625 euros for throwing objects, 14,000 euros for using a laser pointer and 10,000 euros for obstructing public traffic, details the UEFA website.

De Zerbi deputy suspended

Furthermore, the goalkeeper coach, Alexandre Salvat, is suspended two matches for “ offensive remarks against a match official”. Roberto De Zerbi’s assistant insulted the Spanish referee José Maria Sanchez Martinez at the final whistle.

After four days of the Champions League, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and company only have three points (one victory and three defeats). The next C1 meeting at the Vélodrome stadium is scheduled for November 25 against the English Newcastle (Premier League).
