Despite an ambitious summer transfer window, Olympique de Marseille formalized the arrival of its new recruit this Saturday. Federico Balzaretti joins the Marseille organization as deputy sports director. He will support Medhi Benatia, the club’s current director of football.
This collaboration also marks the reunion between the two former AS Roma players. In a press release, the French vice-champion specified that Balzaretti’s mission will be “to supervise the recruitment unit and participate in the development of the club’s young talents”.
OM wants to move to a higher level
Benatia also spoke about his relationship with his former giallorosso friend and his expected contribution during the next OM transfer windows. “He’s someone I know very well, with whom I played in Rome. He’s a great guy and he’s a great professional. He is someone who knows the environment, who knows the ball well and he will give us a helping hand on everything related to the transfer window and the development of young players. We want to be more and more active in this market”confided the Marseille leader in the mixed zone, after the success against Stade Brestois (3-0) on Saturday.
“We know that today, when you want to take a top player of 19 or 20 years old, you are necessarily in competition with Liverpool, Arsenal… so perhaps he does not necessarily come. Maybe we need to look a little younger and try to support them. It’s about strengthening ourselves, taking the club to a higher level with competent people. I am very proud, very happy, that he joined us and as I said, above all, he is a very nice person”added Benatia.
