Olivier Giroud will undoubtedly not be part of Didier Deschamps’ group to compete in the 2026 World Cup. However, he could well remain linked to the World Cup despite his international retirement. The LOSC striker confided in the show After Foot on RMC that he was considering becoming a consultant during the North American World Cup this summer, an option already mentioned by The Team in January to accompany Xavier Domergue on M6. “I might play a few group matches. It will also depend on whether I continue or not”he explained.

Despite this opening to the media, the desire to play remains intact for the former French international. “Everywhere I go in the stadiums of France, it’s nothing but happiness to meet French people who remember you… As long as you can play and the conditions are right, you have to take advantage of it”he confided, leaving doubt about his future. At the end of his contract next June, the one who will celebrate his 40th birthday in September must soon discuss with his club about the rest of his career.
