Three days after a frustrating defeat against Atalanta Bergamo (0-1) in the Champions League, Olympique de Marseille recovered. This Saturday, for the twelfth day of Ligue 1, the Marseillais hosted the Stade Brestois and wanted to react in front of their audience at the Vélodrome. At the kick-off, OM showed themselves to be directly dangerous and imposed their rhythm.
From the 2nd minute, Angel Gomes served Aubameyang behind the defense, but the Gabonese striker did not target his shot. A few moments later, Greenwood also tried to throw Aubameyang deep, without success. Brest appeared threatening in the 9th minute, but Rulli made a decisive exit past Mboup, preventing Stade Brestois from opening the scoring.
Marseille’s domination materialized shortly before the half-hour mark. In the 26th minute, Angel Gomes opened the scoring with a free kick which took advantage of an error by goalkeeper Majecki. A few minutes later, Greenwood converted a penalty caused by a foul by Lala on Paixao, making the score 2-0. OM mastered their first period perfectly and controlled the game in the opposing camp.
Aubameyang, end of the famine
The start of the second half saw Marseille manage their lead while leaving the ball to Brest. Despite a few incursions from the visitors, OM remained dangerous on the counterattack. Angel Gomes missed a great opportunity for a third goal on a perfect cross from Emerson, but Marseille’s domination remained clear.
In the final minutes, the pace of the match dropped slightly, but OM sealed their victory thanks to Aubameyang, who ended his drought of seven games without a goal. On a perfect offering from O’Riley in the area, the Gabonese pushed the ball into the net, bringing the score to 3-0 and giving the Marseillais a controlled victory. With this success, OM remain undefeated at home in Ligue 1.
