The Moroccan international began a race against time, a month and a half before the CAN kicks off in his country.

The images of Luis Diaz’s deadly tackle announced the worst for Achraf Hakimi, but the latest news is rather reassuring for the Moroccan international.

While several consultants had announced a package for the next African Cup of Nations – Laure Bouleau had notably mentioned an absence of “8 to 10 weeks”Achraf Hakimi has not yet drawn a line under the tournament. And for good reason: there is no ankle fracture.

A terrible image.

“Achraf Hakimi suffers from a severe sprain of his left ankle, which will lead to several weeks of unavailability”wrote Paris Saint-Germain in its medical update at the end of the day on Wednesday. But this does not mean, either, that the defender will be operational from December 21, the kick-off of this CAN.

Morocco holds its breath

The duration of unavailability remains unclear at this stage. The next tests could provide more details and identify a potential return date. In the meantime, an entire country has been holding its breath since Tuesday evening.

Star of the Moroccan team, Achraf Hakimi enjoys an unrivaled popularity rating in a nation which will organize the tournament and is considered the big favorite for a final coronation. A defender’s package for the first matches would be a lesser evil for the Atlas Lions.
