The Champions League was in full swing across Europe this Wednesday evening for the 4th day of the league phase. The clash between
Marseille Olympic
the third French team in the competition, and Atalanta Bergamo was particularly anticipated in France. But other groups from the Old Continent had also come together to cross swords.

Pafos surprises Villarreal, Chelsea saves a point

At the start of the evening, Pafos opened the ball by winning against Villarreal at home. A goal from Derrick Luckassen allowed the Cypriots to achieve a success by the smallest of margins (1-0). At the same time, Chelsea were scared on the Qarabag pitch. Despite Estêvão opening the scoring, the Blues conceded two goals in quick succession. First one from Leandro Andrade, then a penalty converted by Marko Jankovic. The London team had to rely on Alejandro Garnacho to tie the two teams (2-2).

Osimhen shines, Benfica loses to Leverkusen

Finally, the evening concluded with six other meetings. Ajax Amsterdam lost on home soil against Galatasaray. Despite a goalless score at the break, Victor Osimhen showed his team the way by scoring a hat-trick (0-3). Benfica, also, lost their duel against Bayer Leverkusen at home. A goal from Patrik Schick after the hour gave Pillendreher the victory (0-1).

Barça comes close to disaster in Bruges

Cercle Bruges came very close to bringing down Barça in a match where the two teams went blow for blow. Nicolò Tresoldi opened the scoring for the Belgians, before Ferran Torres equalized. Carlos Forbs then responded. In the second half, Lamine Yamal found the net after the hour mark. Forbs then scored twice, but an own goal from Christos Tzolis spoiled the evening for Bruges (3-3).

Inter does the job, City crushes everything and Newcastle bends Bilbao

Inter Milan defeated Kaïrat Almaty thanks to goals from Lautaro Martínez and Carlos Augusto. The Kazakh club had however managed to equalize for the first time thanks to Ofri Arad (2-1). In the Eastlands, Manchester City made short work of Borussia Dortmund. For his reunion with his former club, Erling Haaland found the net. Phil Foden scored twice and Rayan Cherki hit the nail on the head at the end of the match, after a goal from Waldemar Anton (4-1). Finally, the second shock across the Channel also ended with a local victory. Newcastle, in its fortress of Saint James’ Park, quickly opened the scoring against Athletic Bilbao through Dan Burn, before Joelinton made the break after returning from the locker room (2-0).
