Good news for Manchester United: Lisandro Martínez is finally back in team training, almost 9 months after his anterior cruciate ligament rupture. The 27-year-old Argentine defender was seriously injured last February against Crystal Palace (0-2) and had to undergo surgery. After several weeks of individual training, the former Ajax player reunited with his teammates at Carrington. Ruben Amorim, his trainer, was careful at a press conference: “he feels good. His knee is responding very well, so I don’t want to talk about a specific day or a week.”.
Despite this encouraging return, Martínez will have to fight to find a starting place. The Red Devils’ defense has solidified in recent weeks, with Luke Shaw repositioned in the left axis of the 3-man defense, as well as good performances from Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt. Martínez, who has not played an official match since February, may not feature in the squad against Nottingham Forest this weekend. But his gradual return is excellent news for Amorim, who has never hidden how much “Licha’s aggressiveness and leadership” were missing from his team.
