Jules Koundé has been playing for Barça since the summer of 2022, with already more than 150 matches in the Blaugrana jersey. However, his club still has to pay a significant sum to Sevilla FC for his transfer. The Catalan club had committed to paying 50 million euros for the French defender, plus 12.5 million in possible bonuses, including 7.5 million which have already been paid according to A.S.. To date, only a little more than half of the sum has been paid, leaving 24.5 million euros still owed, to which a further 5 million could be added if Koundé plays more than half of the official matches this season and next. In total, nearly 30 million euros could return to the Andalusian club.

Stifled by a salary cap limited to just over 22 million euros, the Andalusian club had to settle for a transfer window without purchases, only with loans or free players, and sold its pillars Dodi Lukebakio and Loïc Badé to balance its accounts. But the full settlement of Koundé's transfer would therefore represent an essential economic lever for Seville, already forced to reduce its budget to comply with financial rules. A rather strange case, but revealing of the complexity of the financial issues in current football.
