Christopher Nkunku absolutely did not expect to leave AC Milan this summer. Left out of Ruben Amorim’s plans then loaned to RB Leipzig, the French international returned at a press conference to a decision that surprised him. “ To respect a decision, we do not always have to understand. It happened suddenly, I myself didn’t expect it », admitted the attacker. Without openly criticizing his former coach, Nkunku admits that he still does not really understand the reasons which led the Italian club to part ways with him.
Three years after his departure, the Frenchman finally returned to an environment he knows perfectly well in Leipzig. The German club obtained its loan for three million euros, with a purchase option set at 27 million euros. Newcastle were also interested, but Nkunku favored a return to the Bundesliga, where he had enjoyed some of his best seasons. Between 2019 and 2023, the former Parisian played 172 games with Leipzig for 70 goals and 56 assists. He will now try to relaunch himself in a club where he had exploded at the highest level.
