The sad news fell this Saturday. The Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs of Senegal announced via a press release that the young Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Touré, trained at Esprit Foot Yeumbeul, was found dead in Ghana.

Barely 18 years old, Cheikh Touré was kidnapped by a group of armed individuals. The latter would have made him promise to pass trials to join a professional club. Defrauded, the young man was held hostage and his captors then demanded a ransom from his family in exchange for his release.

Unfortunately the family was unable to pay the amount of money requested by the criminals, who therefore carried out their threat. The Senegalese authorities have announced the opening of an investigation in collaboration with the Ghanaian authorities in order to shed light on the exact circumstances of this terrible tragedy.

“Be extra careful with unverified offers of tests or transfers abroad”

The repatriation of the body is underway, explains the ministry. The latter also expressed “ his deep compassion to the grieving family » and assured that the file is followed “ with the greatest attention and priority “.

The authorities also urged clubs, supervisors and parents to “to exercise extra caution in the face of unverified offers of tests or transfers abroad“. The press release also reminds young athletes in the country to “always go through official circuits and obtain information from the sports authorities before any trip“.
