Marcus Rashford is set to face a ÂŁ15 million ($20 million) bill as building his dream home becomes a nightmare.

Rashford, currently on loan at Barcelona, has been working on a project in Cheshire since 2020. The land in question was purchased for £2.25 million, but work is progressing slowly and costs continue to rise.

Five years after work began, the majestic residence that Rashford had imagined is far from complete. According to The Sun, the 27-year-old is investigating why the old golf course and clubhouse look nothing like they should be at this stage. The work was reportedly interrupted at one point, “following a rumor of a financial dispute”.

Rashford reportedly “instructed his finance team to determine the cause of the problem” and determine when construction could be completed if no further problems were encountered. The England international wanted to make the former nine-hole golf course his “forever home”, but he will have to invest huge sums of money to achieve this.

Big plans: What Rashford's home will include

A source told The Sun: “ Marcus has already invested millions, but he risks spending more. A dispute arose this summer. Work has recently resumed, but progress is slow. It's all about money. Marcus fears the house will never be worth as much as he invested in it. But he's caught between a rock and a hard place, because he can't stop there. He just wants to finish it.”

The lavish plans were to include five bedrooms, an indoor swimming pool, a personal gym and a relaxation area. There would also be a self-contained apartment in the park, landscaped gardens and areas to protect local wildlife. However, the project was hit by flooding and rising costs, leading to a change in initial plans.

Neighbors' frustration: slow progress causes problems

The neighbors are just as frustrated as Rashford. One told The Sun of being visited by a man “acting on behalf of Rashford and his family”: “ He said he dealt with land disputes. There is a dispute regarding the amount of money paid. He asked us questions about entrepreneurs. I told him what I knew and what I had seen. He told me how much they had spent – millions.”

The neighbor added: “ His house is right where it's swampy. We have a cellar and until 2014 it was dry as a rock, but now we have a pump to prevent water from entering, because the water table is very high. So imagine the house next door, two floors lower. Pumping is continuous. »

“The number of heavy machines installed there is incredible. But there is no sign of completed construction. Nobody knows what will happen. “There are all kinds of rumors, but I've never seen Rashford here. The costs are exorbitant, even for someone earning ÂŁ350,000 a week.

“We have never contested the project. We once complained to the site manager because there were a lot of weeds. And when they are sown, they are projected towards us. One weed in particular is toxic to our horses: ragwort. »
