Last season, Real Madrid benefited from more penalties than any other team in Europe, with a total of 19 occasions. However, this record has not translated into efficiency, since more than a third of these shots have not led to a goal, making the club Merengue the major European team having missed the most penalties. What to question the one who will be appointed official shooter for the 2025-26 season.

Several names are mentioned by Marca To put on this delicate role. Kylian Mbappé, who missed three penalties last season, appears on the front line, just like Vinicius Jr, author of two errors. Jude Bellingham and Federico Valverde also experienced failures during the exercise, with a penalty failed each. In particular, the last two penalties attempted by Real Madrid were missed: Mbappé against Real Sociedad, even if he was able to take advantage of the rebound to score, and Valverde in the Club World Cup against al-Hilal.

Xabi Alonso, new Real coach, had first entrusted the responsibility to Valverde this summer, but the results were not there. The Madrid technician is therefore obliged to review his strategy and choose the safest shooter. According to the Spanish daily, everything suggests that Kylian Mbappé, who recently recovered the legendary number 10, will take the reins of this responsibility, before Vinicius.

The resumption fixed

A few days before the start of the season, the decision therefore seems to be stopped: Real Madrid places its confidence in Kylian Mbappé to straighten the record on penalties and instill a new offensive dynamic. The objective is clear, maximize every goal. The pressure is now based on the French striker.

The verdict will fall from August 19, at Santiago Bernabéu, against Osasuna. Indeed, Real Madrid asked for the postponement of its first Liga match, believing that its preparation had been too short because of its participation in the Club World Cup. The single judge of Laliga rejected this request, considering that the criteria of “force majeure” were not met and that the truce of 21 days had been respected.
