Darcheville, the sad end

The story is great. At 19, Jean-Claude Darcheville came to Paris with his Guyannais club (US Sinnamary) to compete in the overseas Cup final and was spotted by Stade Rennais! The 1.73 m center-forward with an explosive physique was not imposed in the Red and Black, but then shone with FC Lorient and the Girondins de Bordeaux, becoming the darling of the supporters. Even the public of the Glasgow Rangers adopted it during the 2007-2008 season.

After passages to FC Nantes and Greece, “the Darche” ended his career in the country (French Guiana is still an overseas region stuck between Guyana and Brazil). His retirement dates from 2014, at 38 years old. Four years later, he returned to metropolitan France to spend his coach diplomas. Darcheville was appointed coach of Guyanne in 2022, with his former National Steeve Falgayrettes coach as assistant!

“Pride!” At the start, my goal was to return to mainland France to bring my experience, but when you have the chance to be able to do it in your country, to share everything I learned in my career to all the young people in my country, I could only be proud “had reacted “JCD” to

Relegated Guyana, Darcheville fired

Like Martinique and Guadeloupe (and unlike New Caledonia, which has a national team as an almost autonomous territory), Guyanne is not a FIFA nation and cannot compete in the World Cup qualifiers. It is a selection of the Concacaf, the Confederation of North and Central America and the Caribbean and therefore disputes the League of Continental Nations. The Yana Dokos of Donovan Léon (the AJ Auxerre goalkeeper) evolved in Ligue A but were relegated during the last edition.

It sounded the death knell for Darcheville, not renewed. At 50 (he celebrated them this Friday), the former Merlu winner of the French Cup in 2002 and ex-Girondin winner of the League Cup in 2007 quickly responded to the call of the Saint-Martin League, another French territory. On this paradise island of the Antilles, between Guadeloupe and Puerto Rico, the round ball is not really a priority. The Saint-Martinois selection has just been relegated to Ligue C, the last division of the League of Concacaf Nations.
