If his club World Cup ended in sausage water with a fairly unusual red card during the lost final against Chelsea, Joao Neves still shone with PSG by his activity. He ends up at the top of an impressive statistic.

In the absence of Ousmane Dembélé at the start of the club World Cup, PSG was able to count on its “safe guys” during its career to the final, like the essential Vitinha, Achraf Hakimi, Fabian Ruiz, or Gianluigi Donnarumma, Désiré Doué and Joao Neves. The formation of Luis Enrique, however, missed a legendary double, a month and a half after his coronation in the Champions League, being billed by Chelsea in the final (3-0).

The Parisians sank during the first canon period of the Blues, led by a Cole Palmer Létal, author of a double and the decisive pass on the third goal signed Joao Pedro before half time. Among PSG offensive cracks, Ousmane Dembélé was transparent, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia disappointing and Bradley Barcola, launched in place of the Georgian winger, did not manage to relaunch his team during the last half hour of play.

The meeting even changed in ridicule. Faced with Chelsea players who are boosted for the occasion, some PSG players fell in love with Joao Neves, the author of a first bad gesture on Marc Cucurella then an improbable assault on the Spanish side. The young Portuguese environment held Cucurella by the hair and received a red card after the intervention of the video referee (85th). At the final whistle, it was Nuno Mendes who, wanting to explain himself with Andrey Santos, created an immense altercation (marked by the blow by Luis Enrique on Joao Pedro).

Joao Neves before Caicedo

Joao Neves lost its nerves in the suffocating heat of the Metlife Stadium, in the suburbs of New York, after having impressed once again during this Club World Cup. The only 20-year-old player scored a double against Inter Miami (4-0) in the third group match and was a decisive passer against Bayern in eighth (2-0), while making his slaughter admire during all PSG meetings or almost.

Statistically, Neves ends up the players who have managed the most tackles, with a total of 22, by ahead of Moisés Caicedo, the incredible Chelsea midfielder, probably one of the best in the tournament. Caicedo succeeded in 19 tackles, as much as the defender of Botafogo Alexander Barboza. There are then three side in this ranking: Fran Garcia du Real Madrid, Nuno Mendes and Malo Gusto, champion with Chelsea, with 18, 16 and 15 successful tackles respectively.
