Ligue 1 will have its own chain. Officially launched on August 15, this 100 % digital platform will broadcast eight games per day for a monthly subscription of € 14.99. The bet is clear: reaching a million subscribers to compensate for the absence of traditional diffuser. Canal+ slammed the door, Bein is content with the Sunday evening poster, and the league promises mountains and wonders … but without a net, the jump could be fatal.
A “popular” price that makes you cringe
Presented as accessible, this offer already arouses tightening. At € 14.99 per month, it remains much more expensive than the Champions League pass offered by Canal+ at € 10, and far from the average purchasing power of French football lovers. The memory of Fiasco Dazn, launched at € 34.99 last year, remains in all memories. A “popular” prize for the LFP, but which could quickly become a brake for supporters.
Does the league already anticipate a failure?
Under its well -put together plan, the LFP strategy hides a concern. The emergency fund of 100 million euros is ready to be activated if the platform does not take off. In 2024, already, 30 million had been released to cover wages after Dazn's defection. Barely born, the LFP channel is already being considered under infusion. A double speech that does not reassure clubs … or fans.
No Canal+, a price that divides: the LFP channel takes risks
Canal+ Outside, visibility in danger
The break with Canal+ adds another major problem: visibility. With more than 2.5 million subscribers, the encrypted channel offered a powerful relay for Ligue 1. The LFP preferred to refuse the offer of 100 million guaranteed by Maxime Saada, hoping better. But without this network, the new platform may preach in the desert.
The persistent shadow of piracy
Another threat, less visible but just as real: hacking. During the Dazn season, the illegal viewing rate had jumped 50 % according to Hadopi. The future LFP channel could suffer the same fate from August 16. And this time, without channel+ or conventional operators to restore the link with the public, the flight could be fatal.
Platform or infusion? If the million subscribers remains a mirage, clubs will live under respiratory assistance. Has the LFP really took the measure of the danger?
