Lionel Letizi, Martin Djetou, Pierre Laigle, Sabri Lamouchi, Ibrahim Ba and Nicolas Anelka all recognize him in the book
The Night of the Cursed (Fayard editions) by Karim Nedjari, published in 2018. Their life changed the evening of May 22, 1998 when, in the castle of Clairefontaine, Aimé Jacquet gathered them to signify their exclusion from the group. The coach of the Blues had summoned 28 players for the preparation of the 98 World Cup then won by Zinedine Zidane and others.

Golazothe Podcast of Sports.fr and French Football Weekly, returns to the constitution of the group of 22 and therefore the eviction of six French internationals three weeks from the first match against South Africa at Stade Vélodrome. Martin Djetou and Ibrahim Ba particularly experienced a hell of a descent into hell. The young right winger, a new feeling of French football as the World Cup approaches, after a superb season in Bordeaux, has never confirmed at the high level.

Martin Djetou, he needed a year to recover from his sidelining. Recruited in Strasbourg in 1996 to succeed Lilian Thuram, the native of Abidjan became a defensive monster during the title of champion of France in 1997. In 1999, he was replaced by Claude Puel before the defense alongside Lamouchi. The Monegasques again made superb French champions, in 2000, with Marcelo Gallardo and Ludovic Giuly in detonators and David Trezeguet by scorer.

Martin Djetou, the Parma scandal

The rest is terrible. Djetou joins Parma to succeed Thuram (party at Juventus) and forms the central hinge with Fabio Cannavaro. The Parmesans, also led by Sébastien Frey, Alain Boghossian, Sabri Lamouchi and Johan Micoud, win the Italian Cup against the old lady of Thuram and Trezeguet, but the club is experiencing serious financial difficulties. Djetou is loaned to Fulham for two seasons but Parma does not pay him the salary part that owes him.

Back in Italy, he was dismissed from the group and the managers of Parma pretend an anomaly at the heart to terminate his contract. The trial brought by Djetou will last 10 years. Young thirties, Djetou does not relaunch himself neither in Nice, nor in Bolton, then joined Istres, in Ligue 2, without being paid, then Schiltigheim, in CFA, without being paid. A nightmare of several years with, moreover, some personal setbacks. Thanks to RC Strasbourg, he spent his coach diplomas and now directs the youth teams of the Alsatian club.
