Jonathan David, it's done

An essential scorer of Lille for five seasons, Jonathan David, who is only 25 years old, will take off this summer. The Canadian striker recruited to the Gantoise in 2020 leaves the DOGUES at the end of the contract and will therefore be free to sign in the (large) European club of his choice from July 1. John David is not a huge phenomenon, but he is an ultra-modern attacker who fueled his thirst for goals during his visit to the Dogues.

That's good for him, John David (shortly) has (narrowly) the best statistical season of his career. It is impressive regularity. After two seasons at 26 goals in all competitions with LOSC, he compiled 25 goals in 2024-2025 (16 in 32 Ligue 1 matches, 9 in 14 Champions League matches), even if the championship and European Cup sequence has precisely displayed its limits in the game and finishing.

Jonathan David chained with the Gold Cup with Canada and, offering a double during the preparation match against Ukraine (4-2), he reached 31 goals in 59 matches this season in club and in selection. It does better than in 2022-2023 with its 30 achievements in total. His assessment is particularly impressive and he tells himself that, in addition to many Premier League clubs, Barça would like to recruit him free.

Jonathan David Decisive at the entrance

The native of Brooklyn (who grew up in Port-au-Prince then Ottawa) even made his 16th assist. John David did not score during the entrance to the Canucks to the Gold Cup against Honduras (6-0), Tuesday evening in Vancouver, but he offered the opening of the score to Niko Sigur (27th). The Lille, who had only two opportunities in front of the Hondurian goal, was replaced in the 63rd minute by Cyle Larin while the score was 3-0.

The Canadian selection is largely favorite of its group. After Honduras, Jonathan David and his teammates face Curaçao and Salvador, 90th and 81st respectively in the FIFA world ranking in the coming days. If all is well, Canada will fall on Guatemala in the quarterfinals and could thus challenge the United States of Mauricio Pocsettino in half, one year from the 2026 World Cup. Mexico is in the other part of the table.
