Liverpool was to celebrate a triumph. A giant parade, a jubilation audience, a pouring rain but a million supporters present to celebrate the coronation in the Premier League. And then, horror. A car rushes into the crowd on Water Street, near the historic center, where the players, acclaimed on their bus, had just passed. The scenes of joy turned to the nightmare. A carnage. About fifty injured. And in the center of the shock: a man, behind the wheel, arrested on the spot. Since then, a whole city has been trying to understand.

Liverpool: what we know about man behind the tragedy

The identity of the suspect remains confidential. But the Merseyside police unveiled certain elements: he is a 53 -year -old white man, resident of the Liverpool region. Still in police custody at St Anne Street, he is assisted by a lawyer. No official charges have yet been retained, but several potential leaders are mentioned behind the scenes, from “dangerous conduct” to “attempts at multiple murders”. The terrorist track has been dismissed.

Liverpool in shock: a parade that turns into drama.

The investigators follow the trace of an icing scenario: that of an ambulance “branch”. The vehicle could have slipped behind a medical convoy to enter a closed area to the public. A seriously envisaged hypothesis. In addition, there are more than 140 videos of witnesses and surveillance cameras, collected to reconstruct the facts precisely. The street remains blocked, a 3D modeling is underway, and the prosecution could decide tomorrow.

A very heavy human assessment

The latest assessment reports 47 injured, including 27 hospitalized, and 4 in critical condition. Among them, a child. Overwhelming stories flock. Some evoke projected bodies, others of extreme panic scenes. The club, the local authorities, to King Charles III reacted. The emotion is immense. Even the Unite union suspended a strike at the Royal Liverpool Hospital by Solidarity.

While the suspect remains silent, the authorities await the results of the toxicological and psychiatric examinations. Nothing allows for the moment to explain his motivations. This drama, which occurred in full popular euphoria, revives the specter of a painful past, from Hillsborough to today. Liverpool has its wounds, but now requires answers. The survey is progressing, and the next hours will be crucial.
