Three days after taking out Brighton in the EFL Cup, Manchester City was beaten this Saturday in the Premier League by the same team (0-1).

As luck would have it, Manchester City and Brighton met twice in the space of three days. Wednesday evening, the Skyblues were very hot, validating their ticket for the quarter-finals at the end of a tense penalty shootout (2-2, 4-3 on the tabs). This Saturday, the Seagulls took their revenge in the Premier League with a victory at the Etihad Stadium (0-1, 9th day).

It was from the eleventh minute of play that the visitors took the lead, thanks to Yasin Ayari’s opener (0-1). A goal which will in fact be the one and only of this meeting. With this advantage, Brighton decided to let their opponent come. But with Ayyoub Bouaddi in particular, the locals did not manage to find the key. The first period was also quite poor offensively for City (7 shots, 1 on target).

Enzo Maresca did not upset everything at the break on the Mancunian side, still bringing in Rayan Cherki in the 55th minute of play. More attempts for his team (14 shots, 5 on target), but the opposing resistance meant that the score did not change until the final whistle. Still leader while awaiting the result of Arsenal who face Liverpool this Sunday, Manchester City nevertheless remains on two consecutive defeats in the league after that against Aston Villa. Brighton took the opportunity to find themselves third provisionally.

Régis Le Bris in danger at Sunderland

In the other matches of the afternoon, Bournemouth won against Leeds (2-0), Brentford brought down a Nottingham Forest team more than ever in the red zone (2-0). Last in the standings, Sunderland lost again, this time at Coventry (3-1). Enough to put his French trainer, Régis Le Bris, in great danger.

Finally, Hull City and Ipswich chased each other throughout the game to finally part ways as good friends (2-2). Earlier in the day, Chelsea beat Manchester United (2-0).
