As every year, the newspaper L'Equipe has lifted the veil on the salaries of the main actors of Ligue 1, thus bringing to light large disparities and some exceptions confirming the rule. This season, an overall increase in emoluments should be noted among coaches, around 15 to 20%. The arrival in France of Roberto de Zerbi, on the OM bench, is not unrelated to this observation.

The Marseille strategist has indeed become the second best paid technician in the elite – by far – with a gross remuneration of 550,000 euros per month. It is indeed below the million affected monthly by its Parisian counterpart Luis Enrique of course but it is also much higher than the emoluments of the third man on the podium: the Lyonnais Paulo Fonseca and its 320,000 euros monthly.

Among the Olympians, Roberto de Zerbi can, moreover, boast of having the best salary of the locker room, in front of his midfielder's executives that are Adrien Rabiot and Pierre-Emile Höjbjerg, who, for their part, have 500,000 euros gross. This is also true for Bruno Genesio at LOSC. The former Lyonnais and Rennes receiving in the north 220,000 euros each month, when the star of the workforce Jonathan David “is content” of 187,500 euros.

Limited wages for Still, Beye or Gasset

Conversely, we can note the cases of the Lensois Will Still or the Stéphanois Eirik Horneland who, with 100,000 and 45,000 euros in monthly gross monthly salary, do not even appear in the top 10 of their locker room. Habib Beye in Rennes (90,000 euros) and Jean-Louis Gasset in Montpellier (20,000 euros) are on the threshold of the average salary observed within their clubs (150,000 euros at Stade Rennais; 75,400 euros at MHSC).

The Rémois Samba Diawara is also in this case, he who receives 16,000 euros per month when the average of the Champagne team is at 32,300 euros. The interested party, who does not yet have the required coach diploma, kept his assistant compensation while Luka Elsner, thanked on February 3, received 70,000 euros. Note that the gross minimum wage defined by UNECATEF, the union of coaches, is 17,920 euros for a coach in Ligue 1.
