Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid? Leverkusen complicates the case

The rumor seems too beautiful to be true. A former Real Madrid player, a brilliant tactician, dominating the Bundesliga with a playful and conquering team … who other than Xabi Alonso to take over from Carlo Ancelotti on the Merengues bench? History seems written in advance. Too well written, maybe …

Because if everything seems to indicate that the Basque technician will settle down in the summer of 2025 for a triumphant return to Madrid, a key element questions this scenario: his current club, the Bayer Leverkusen. Officially, the leaders of the German club do not want to hear about it. Fernando Carro, president of Bayer, even publicly expressed his desire to see Alonso going to the end of his contract, or even to extend.

Leverkusen closes the door… to better negotiate?

When a club displays such a firm position, there are always two possibilities. Either Leverkusen is sincerely convinced that he can hold back his coach, or he seeks to raise the auctions. Alonso is under contract until 2026, and his departure this summer could only be done in exchange for substantial compensation.

Xabi Alonso has not yet left.

By insisting on his intention to keep it, Leverkusen sends a clear message: it will be necessary to pay dear to attach the services of the Spanish coach. Especially since Carlo Ancelotti could ultimately prolong an additional season, thus delaying the deadline for Real.

Will Xabi Alonso will play the watch?

He himself said he wanted to leave Leverkusen this summer. On the contrary, he has always hammered that he was focused on the current season. But can it really resist the call of Real Madrid? His Madrid past, his relationship with Florentino PƩrez and the opportunity to train one of the biggest clubs in the world make the expectations unbearable.

Doubt is therefore allowed. Bayer Leverkusen plays the total locking card, but is it a temporary posture or a real will? One thing is certain: the future of Xabi Alonso is far from being sealed.
