What was to be a simple transaction on the winter market is taking a much more substantial turn. The Girondins de Bordeaux, ambitious in their reconstruction project, wish to attach the services of Gil Lawson for the second half of the season in National 2. But Haguenau, a Alsatian club where the player is currently playing, refuses to release him without financial compensation. A position that prompted Bordeaux to grasp the FFF, transforming this affair into a real legal case.

A transfer that turns to the state affair

For Bordeaux, this blockage is perceived as an infringement of the fluidity of the transfer market. According to the regulations in force, when an amateur player wishes to join a professional club, the agreement of the Club Ceding is supposed to be a formality. However, Haguenau requests compensation of 100,000 euros, a sum which far exceeds standards for this type of transfer. A requirement that Bordeaux considers as a hindrance to the development of amateur players.

The FFF facing a thorny dilemma with Bordeaux

Caught between two fires, the French Football Federation will have to decide on this dispute which could well be jurisprudence. If it proves Bordeaux right, it could weaken amateur clubs in their future negotiations. Conversely, if it rules in favor of Haguenau, this could dissuade certain professional clubs from recruiting in the lower divisions, thus limiting opportunities for many young talents.

A decision with national repercussions

While Gil Lawson was not selected for the next Haguenau games, the case could experience a decisive twist in the coming days. Bordeaux, who does not want to let go, hopes that the FFF will make a quick decision in order to be able to integrate the player into his workforce.

This apparently harmless file, thus poses a key question for the future of French football: do amal clubs still have a say in the face of professional structures?
