Sylvain Wiltord's career is obviously magnificent. The one who equalized in the 94th minute of the final of Euro 2000 against Italy – before the golden goal of the French team signed David Trezeguet – also won the Confederations Cup (2001 and 2003) twice) And was to the 2006 World Cup final against the same Azzurri. In a club, he was champion of France four times, once with the Girondins de Bordeaux in 1999 and three times with OL in 2005, 2006 and 2007, as well as double winner of the Premier League with Arsenal (2002 and 2004 ).

Wiltord also left a great memory at Stade Rennais, his training club in which he revealed. He launched his career with four beautiful seasons with the Red and Black (36 goals in 137 matches from 1993 to 1997) before joining Bordeaux. And “Nino”, its nickname from the training center, also returned to SRFC at 33, during the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 seasons. He had been celebrated by the Lorient road stadium (now Roazhon Park).

“Nino” Wiltord, the idol

Sylvain Wiltord marked the Memoirs in Rennes so much that a former SRFC player paid him a rather surprising tribute. During the “legends dinner” organized by the club with former players in the last end of year celebrations, Stéphane Grégoire, defender from 1997 to 2002 in Ille-et-Vilaine, then explained that he named his third son Nino In reference to one of the tricolor heroes of Euro 2000. There were indeed banners in tribute to “Nino” Wiltord in the stadium. An unexpected anecdote that moved the interested party.

Wiltord also took the opportunity to evoke the origin of this nickname, Nino. “This is one of the first films that we went to see at the training center”launched the former Gunners striker in reference to Nino Brown, a character interpreted by Wesley Snipes in New Jack Cityfilm released in 1991.
