Stuck in a spiral of poor results at the head of Manchester United, Ruben Amorim seems ready to shake up his principles to get things back on track. The Portuguese coach could go back on one of his promises, namely not to recruit any players from his former club, Sporting CP, this winter.
When he took over as head of the Red Devils on November 11, the 39-year-old tactician said:
“I’m not going to take a Sporting player in January. These years at Sporting were the best of my life, and I will never forget them”he confided in comments relayed by TMw.
A big blow at 100 million euros
According to information from Daily MailAmorim’s main target is none other than Viktor Gyokeres, the most prolific striker in Europe today. The Lisbon side has already expressed to its leaders its desire to recruit the Swedish center forward, author of 27 goals and 6 assists in 27 matches in all competitions this season.
However, recruiting the Stockholm native will not be an easy task. On the radars of several top European teams, Gyokeres is under contract with the Leoes until June 2028. He also has a release clause set at 100 million euros. The question therefore remains whether MU will dare to take the plunge by spending such a sum to strengthen its offensive sector.
