FC Barcelona finds itself in a major crisis after Dani Olmo’s La Liga registration for the second half of the season failed due to financial constraints. This critical situation endangers the management of Joan Laporta, under fire for his management deemed hazardous.
An explosive file for Barça
Recruited for 55 million euros in the summer of 2024, Dani Olmo could leave the club as early as this winter transfer window thanks to a clause in his contract, while continuing to receive his salaries until 2029. This situation is aggravated by the club’s failure to convince La Liga and the Spanish Federation to authorize its registration, despite promises of income, such as the sale of VIP boxes for 100 million euros.
According to the opposition led by Victor Font, the management of the Olmo case illustrates a lack of transparency and a “waste of resources” of the club. Font, a former presidential candidate, demands immediate explanations and threatens reprisals if Laporta fails to resolve this situation.
A call for Laporta to resign
Faced with this crisis, the social collective “Som un clam” called for the resignation of Joan Laporta, stressing that this affair further tarnishes the image of the club already weakened by recurring financial problems. Some Spanish media are talking about a real “scandal”, which could cost Barça dearly, both economically and sportingly.
If Barça fails to find a quick solution, Dani Olmo’s departure could result in a total loss estimated at 263 million euros, including his salary, his lost transfer fee, and other financial consequences.
