After five and a half seasons in the colors of FC Barcelona, Frenkie de Jong’s future remains marked by uncertainty. With a contract that expires in June 2026, the Dutch midfielder continues to fuel speculation about a possible departure from the Catalan club.
Little solicited by coach Hansi Flick, the former Ajax Amsterdam player confided his feelings during an interview with International Voetbal this Thursday. Faced with a frustrating situation, De Jong no longer rules out turning the page with the Blaugrana.
A possible transfer
“People think I want to stay in Barcelona forever because life, outside of football, is so good here, and that’s good. But what happens on the ground is always the most important. If I feel like I can’t contribute enough, or if the team isn’t competitive, I’ll leave,” explained Barça number 21.
These remarks will not fail to challenge the Culé leaders. In the grip of serious financial difficulties, the Spanish vice-champion could well be more tempted than ever to part with the second highest salary in his locker room.
