After a complicated end to the year in La Liga, FC Barcelona and its coach Hansi Flick hoped to strengthen the squad this winter. However, the club’s financial situation makes any recruitment impossible, even for the priority targets identified.
Leon Goretzka, an unattainable dream for Hansi Flick
According to Sport, Flick wanted to recruit Leon Goretzka, whom he knows well since his time at the head of the German selection. The German international would have brought the physical power and versatility that the Catalan midfielder lacks. But, with the urgency of registering Dani Olmo and Pau Victor in La Liga, the idea of recruiting Goretzka was abandoned. A decision which illustrates the rigor imposed by financial fair play, even in a club as prestigious as Barça.
No arrivals or departures in January
According to Marca, Barça management has confirmed that no recruits will arrive this winter. The club is also not planning any departures, despite its current difficulties in the league. Hansi Flick will therefore have to rely on the existing squad, notably with the revelation of Marc Casado, who distinguished himself in this first part of the season. Barça’s ambitions in La Liga and the Champions League will have to be played out without reinforcement.
